How to play Checkers Club

Checkers Club is classic eight by eight checkers with the American rules. Each side has twelve pieces on the dark squares. Men move one step diagonally forward, jump over an enemy piece to capture it, and kings (a man that reaches the far row) move and jump in all four diagonal directions. Capturing is compulsory and a jump must be continued while another one is possible, so plan your routes. You win when the other side has no piece or no move left.

Play the computer at three strengths (Friendly, Clever, Tough), choose to play red or dark, or pass the screen to a friend. Take back moves with Undo, ask for a Hint, and watch your wins, losses and streak. The game also calls a draw after 40 moves each without a capture or the same position three times.

Progress, best scores and settings are saved on your device, so you can close the tab and come back later. The game runs in the browser with no download and no account.

FAQ

Which rules does the game use?

American checkers on an eight by eight board: men step and jump forward only, kings move and jump in all four diagonals one square at a time, capturing is compulsory and a jump continues while another is possible.

Do I have to capture?

Yes. If any of your pieces can jump, you must make a jump; pieces that can jump are ringed in orange. After a jump, keep jumping with the same piece while you can.

How do the three computer levels differ?

Friendly looks one move ahead and sometimes picks a weaker move, Clever thinks about four moves ahead, Tough about seven. The computer is deterministic: the same game position and seed give the same reply.

Can I take a move back or get a hint?

Yes. Each game gives you three free undos and three free hints against the computer; more are available through an optional video. In a two-player game Undo is unlimited.

Is Checkers Club free?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with no download and no account.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. It runs on phones, tablets and computers. Tap a piece, then a square to move or jump. Buttons for undo, hint and a new game.
