How to play Snake and Ladders
Snake and Ladders is the classic dice race on a fresh board every game. Pick two, three or four players, set each seat to You or Bot, choose a small 6x6, medium 8x8 or large 10x10 board, and roll. Your pawn hops along the winding path of numbered squares. Land at the foot of a ladder and you climb; land on a snake's head and you slide down its body.
A six gives you another roll, but three sixes in a row lose the move. By default you must roll the exact number to land on the last square. Each player also holds one re-roll token: when a roll would land on a snake, spend it to roll again. Bots use theirs the same way, so a token can decide a close race. You can also turn the token off for the plain classic game, or let any roll finish.
Games last about one to three minutes. Share one device by setting several seats to You, or play bots. Your wins, streak and fewest rolls per board size are saved on your device, and the fast button shortens the animations.
Controls
Click the die or press Space or Enter to roll. R re-rolls when a snake is ahead. P or Esc pauses, M mutes.
Tap the die to roll. When a snake is ahead, tap Re-roll to spend your token or Move anyway to take it. Tap the pause button to stop.
FAQ
Can I play against the computer?
Yes. Set a seat to Bot in the menu. You can play one-on-one or against up to three bots, or set several seats to You and share one device.
What is the re-roll token?
Each player gets one per game. When your roll would land on a snake head you may spend it to roll again. You can switch tokens off in the menu for the classic rules.
Do I need the exact number to finish?
By default yes: if the roll is too big your pawn stays where it is. Turn off Exact finish to let any roll that reaches the last square win.
Is the board always the same?
No. Every game builds a new board with its own snakes and ladders. After a game you can choose Same board for a rematch on the board you just played.
Is Snake and Ladders free?
Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with no download and no account.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. It runs on phones, tablets and computers. Tap the die to roll. When a snake is ahead, tap Re-roll to spend your token or Move anyway to take it. Tap the pause button to stop.
