How to play Mini Crossword
Mini Crossword is a small crossword you can finish in a few minutes. Every puzzle is a 5x5 grid with across and down clues; tap a square, type the letters with the on-screen keys or your keyboard, and tap the same square again to switch direction. Finish every entry correctly and the grid celebrates.
Choose Easy, Medium or Hard. Easy puzzles use everyday words and more black squares, Hard puzzles have long crossing words with only a few blocks. There is also one puzzle per day, the same for everybody, with a streak that counts the days you solve it. Puzzles are numbered, so you can always pick up the next one, and a puzzle in progress is saved when you leave.
Stuck? You start with three hints and earn more by solving. Reveal a letter or a whole word, or use Check to cross out every wrong letter for free. Solve without help to earn three stars and a best time. An optional video gives extra hints. Your progress, hints, streak and best times are saved on your device.
Controls
Keyboard: type letters, arrow keys move, Backspace deletes, Tab or Page Down next clue, Esc pause. Click a square twice to switch Across/Down. M sound.

How big are the puzzles?
Every puzzle is a 5x5 grid. Easy ones have many black squares and short words, Hard ones are almost fully open with long words crossing each other.
Is there a new puzzle every day?
Yes. The daily puzzle is the same for everyone on a given day and gets harder towards the weekend. Solve it on consecutive days to build a streak.
What do hints do?
A hint reveals one letter (cost 1) or the whole word (cost 2). Check is free: it crosses out every wrong letter. Using hints or checks lowers your stars, and only a no-help solve sets a best time.
Are the clues and words copied from a newspaper?
No. The word list and every clue were written for this game, and each puzzle is generated fresh from them.
Is Mini Crossword free?
Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with no download and no account.
Can I play on my phone?
