How to play Twin Elements

Twin Elements is a cooperative puzzle platformer for one or two players. Ember, a little flame spirit, can wade through lava but is put out by water. Wave, a drop of water, swims through pools but is burned by lava. Green goo is deadly to both, so every pool is a puzzle: whose element is it, and who has to jump?

Each of the nine temple rooms is a small maze. Collect the red gems with Ember and the blue gems with Wave, step on pressure plates to open barriers and raise lifts, and take turns holding plates so your partner can pass. A room is complete when both spirits stand in their own doors at the same time.

Play alone and switch between the spirits with one key, or share a keyboard: Ember on W, A and D, Wave on the arrow keys. Touch pads are built in for phones. Every room awards up to three stars for finishing, for collecting every gem and for beating the par time, and your progress is saved on your device.

Controls

One player: arrows or WASD to move and jump, E or Shift switches spirit. Two players: Ember W A D, Wave arrow keys. P or Esc pauses, R restarts, M mutes.

On-screen pads: left and right, jump, and a switch button for solo play. In two-player mode each player gets a pad on their own side of the screen.

FAQ

Why does Wave die in lava?

Each spirit is hurt by the opposite element: Ember is put out by water and Wave is burned by lava. Each is safe in its own element, and green goo hurts both.

Can I play alone?

Yes. In one-player mode you control one spirit at a time and switch with E or Shift (or the switch button on a phone); the other spirit waits where it stands.

How do two players share one keyboard?

Choose 2 players. Ember uses W, A and D, Wave uses the arrow keys, and both can move at the same time.

How do I get three stars?

Finish the room (one star), collect every gem (two stars) and finish under the par time shown on the result card (three stars).

Is Twin Elements free?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with no download and no account.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. It runs on phones, tablets and computers. On-screen pads: left and right, jump, and a switch button for solo play. In two-player mode each player gets a pad on their own side of the screen.
