How to play Lunar Lander
Lunar Lander is a physics arcade game about one thing: bring the ship down in one piece. Gravity pulls you towards the ground, a single engine pushes you the way the nose points, and every burst costs fuel. Turn the ship, cancel your drift, brake late and touch down on a flat landing pad: slowly, upright and without sideways speed.
Thirty missions on six worlds, from the grey moon with its gentle pull to a heavy giant moon with gusting wind. The terrain is different in every mission, pads get narrower, small pads pay double or four times, and one wrong tilt in the last second ends the mission. Touching down off a pad is allowed if you are gentle: take off again and find the pad.
Earn up to three stars per mission for a safe landing, a tank that is still more than a third full, and a feather-soft touchdown. Spend the credits in the hangar on a bigger tank, a stronger engine and sturdier landing gear. An optional video can double the credits of a mission or give a failed mission a bigger tank for the retry. Progress is saved on your device.
Controls
Left / Right arrows or A / D turn the ship, Up / W / Space fires the engine. P or Esc pauses, R restarts the mission, M turns sound on or off.
Hold the two round buttons at the bottom left to turn the ship and the big orange button at the bottom right to fire the engine. Auto-level in the menu helps to keep the ship upright.
FAQ
What makes a landing safe?
Touch down on a flat pad with a fall speed under 36, sideways speed under 22 and a tilt under about 11 degrees. The values are shown live on the screen and turn green when they are safe.
Can I land somewhere that is not a pad?
Only gently, and only on gentle ground. The ship then waits there and you can take off again, but a mission is only won on a pad. Steep slopes tip the ship over.
What happens when the fuel runs out?
The engine stops and the ship falls. If it ends up resting off a pad with an empty tank the mission fails. Free fall costs no fuel, so brake late and in short bursts.
What are credits for?
Every landing pays credits by score and stars. Spend them in the hangar on a bigger tank, a stronger engine and landing gear that forgives more speed and tilt.
Is Lunar Lander free?
Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with no download and no account.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. It runs on phones, tablets and computers. Hold the two round buttons at the bottom left to turn the ship and the big orange button at the bottom right to fire the engine. Auto-level in the menu helps to keep the ship upright.
